Beverly Sills
(Belle Miriam Silverman) (nacida el 25 de mayo de 1929 en Brooklyn, Nueva York
- fallecida el 2 de julio de 2007), de origen ucraniano-rumano, fue la más
famosa cantante americana de ópera de los años 60 y los 70. Fue tan famosa como
soprano de coloratura que la apodaron "La
Reina de la Ópera Americana" destacándose luego como empresaria,
ejecutiva, periodista y directora de teatros y organizadora.
Beverly Sills (Belle Miriam Silverman / May 25, 1929 – July 2, 2007) was an American
operatic soprano whose peak career was between the 1950s and 1970s. In her prime
she was the only real rival to Joan Sutherland as the leading bel canto
stylist. After retiring from singing in 1980, she became the general manager of
the New York City Opera. In 1994, she became the Chairman of Lincoln Center and
then, in 2002, of the Metropolitan Opera, stepping down in 2005. Sills lent her
celebrity to further her charity work for the prevention and treatment of birth
defects.
